With the gloss optimizer, R1900 photos have the continuous-tone look of traditional photo lab prints. Even when we put prints from the R1900 alongside prints from the best dye printers on the market‚ Epson’s Stylus Photo 1400 ( ) and Canon’s Pixma Pro9000 ($500), viewers unanimously chose the R1900 photos as the best. On Epson’s Premium Glossy and Premium Luster papers, images pop off the page in a way that we haven’t seen from any printer priced under $1,000. (Because the gloss differential covers the entire page, it gets used up much more quickly, but Epson includes four cartridges per box, at the same price as one cartridge of the color inks.) Great print qualityįor years, if you wanted the best possible glossy prints, you had to purchase a dye-based printer. We printed more than 120 photos of varying sizes before we had to change any of the color inks. This means that you’ll end up replacing them fairly often, especially if you’re printing large images however, the cartridges are also fairly inexpensive. The print cartridges are fairly small for a device that can create big prints.
